POKEMON THEMEd WEDDING
Remember a while back, maybe 6 or 7 years ago, when the Pokémon app became really popular? The one where you have catch Pokémon and complete the list of characters? I will never forget that because that was the only time I actually went out for a walk, and even run just to go to places to catch the ones around the area. It was fun while it lasted. The reason I am talking about them right now, is because in my local area, there’s a new café that opened, that has a Pokémon theme. I checked it out online and saw that the drinks they offer are all named after Pokémon characters. So a thought came to my mind, what about a Pokémon theme wedding?
Ok ok ok.. Before you get your panties in a wad, and scream at me about how childish this is, hear me out. I am not talking about a costume party a la Halloween, there are so many ways you an incorporate a theme without going over the top, and putting obvious themed objects everywhere. I am not asking you to copy each character.
I am mainly talking about the colors. When we talk about Pokémon, what is the first image that comes to your mind? Of course it’s Pikachu right? Pikachu and Ash, because they are the main characters. So you should know what colors I am talking about, right? Yellow, white, blue, black, and of course red. Yellow, being the color of Pikachu and white and blue for Ash. Actually now that we’re talking about this, this would be a good theme for an LGBTQ+A wedding because of the variety of color that you can use (the different colors of the Pokémon characters) without really looking like a rainbow themed wedding.
Let’s think about this.
Bridesmaids dresses - your bridesmaids can be in a variety of colors if you want, some of them can wear yellow dresses like this one:
And the groomsmen can wear blue (like Ash):
Or the bridesmaids can also wear a viareity of colors based off the colors of the characters
Flowers- If the bridesmaids are wearing a variety of colors, and not a plain yellow dress, then the flowers can be yellow, like daisies, or even sunflowers. Don’t do yellow flowers if the bridesmaids are wearing yellow dresses. That’s too much. You can also incorporate this with the centerpieces, the bouquets can be tied with a black or red ribbon.
TO make it look more more in tune with the Pokémon theme, instead of your regular bouquets for the bridesmaids, buy a Styrofoam ball and cover it with flowers. Red roses to get the perfect pokeball color and tie it with a black ribbon .
Decor - Just stick to white tablecloths, don’t get too carried away with the color scheme. Especially if the bridal party is already wearing a ton of the Pokémon colors. Just use the colors for the other little things like the ribbons in the centerpiece, or on the chairs.
Napkin Rings - You don’t have to order Pokémon napkin rings because I’m sure those are expensive and unnecessary. What you can do is start collecting toilet paper tubes, or even gift wrap tubes, that’s what I always use for napkin rings. You can cut them into your desired napkin ring size, spray paint it either gold or black and that’s it. It’s a napkin ring! To make it fall into the theme, you can spray paint it red and black to look like the pokeballs.
Invitations/Save the dates/ Thank you cards/Program - this is very easy because whether you get it made by a professional, or do it yourself, you can just incorporate your color choices on there. Don’t put Pokemon characters on it, my God, pls don’t. You can incorporate in the words on there.
Cake and cupcakes - again, you don’t have go the obvious route by putting different characters on there, although I’ve seen some on the internet that really looks awesome. This is an example of that:

If you don’t want your cake to be cartoonish, you can stick with the traditional wedding cake, and then maybe have another cake on the side, or put the Pokémon theme on the cupcakes or candy bar, if you have one.
Games and Programs - you can incorporate the Pokémon theme onto the games and the program Use your imagination with what kind of games you can do, that the participants can catch stuff. That’ll definitely work with the bouquet and garter toss.
Those are just some ideas that you can try if you want a Pokémon themed wedding. Again, you don’t have to go all out. Be subtle with the theme. I’m pretty sure your guests will figure it out right away just by the colors and the shapes.
